My way of holding onto the things I love, the Things I am and the Things I never want to lose...

Lift your head to the sky ‘cause we will never say bye

"Bye Bye" by Mariah Carey

Somehow I will always have a heart when natural disasters happen in the region. The lost of a loved one is always never easy. And to see many lost lives at one shot, one can only feel for those affected. Well if you have been reading the newspapers, I think you will know whats been happening in the world the last few days and this song goes out to all those affected in one way or another.

The only reason I will always have a place in my heart for such things is because of that fateful day when operation flying eagle was about to start. Being a HQ personal, the most action I ever get to see in my NS life is my signal set. Even in war, I will be the first to die by either arty fire or sniper shot due to my vocation. Not much of an exciting life is it.

But war, most of us will never live to see it. But when the chance came to actually take part in operations flying eagle, I did not know was it the call of an adventure or the fact that the human in me was calling out. Sure in the end they only allowed regulars to follow the engineers over to do beach fall but those 3 days we were given to think through will be something I will never forget in my life.

Calling up my insurance agent, talking to my dad and everything. For a little while the idea that anything can happen there somehow made me think alot. After all a form was needed to be signed before we could even be considered meant something. And even if nothing would happen there, I know many who came back were changed forever. The sight of death all around, even the air was so thick of it that most burnt or buried their uniform there.

I know my 2IC came back a changed man. Sure the idea of promotion was there after such an operation but was it worth it? To climb the ranks at the expense of so many deaths in some sense.

And now as I know there will be people on standby ready to fly over with to aid in the rescue effort and to help these people rebuild their lives, this song goes out to you as well.

Its usually these little things that happen in my life that brings me back to earth and helps me grow up a bit more and will continue to shape the way I value those around me.

Cheers,
Kenneth.
